French Style Pommel for Épée or Foil
The French style pommel is a precision component specifically designed for mounting on épées and foils that use traditional straight (French style) grips. Its primary function is to serve as the mechanical end cap for the weapon's assembly, while simultaneously acting as the critical counterweight that determines the balance, agility, and center of gravity of the blade.
Unlike pommels for orthopedic grips, the French pommel is optimized for the ergonomics of the open hand, allowing for both the classic grip and tactical extension techniques.
Technical Specifications
-
Geometry: Aerodynamic and stylized profile, evolving from a conical or cylindrical shape toward a rounded, blunt base. This shape prevents painful pressure points on the palm or wrist during handling.
-
Fixing Mechanics: Inner core with high-precision machined female threading (standard fencing M6 or similar). It screws directly onto the blade tang, exerting the necessary pressure to secure the guard, the pad, and the grip.
-
Surface Finish: Available in mirror-polished, blued, or subtle textured (knurled or grooved) finishes that increase friction and prevent slippage if the fencer chooses to hold the weapon further back.
